Reading books mindfully is a great way to develop skills as a reader and writer, even from a very young age. If you have a moment, it would be helpful to send us a quick review of what your babies and toddlers think of the books – whether they were engaged with the pictures and whether they enjoyed the rhythm of the words.
You can encourage your young readers to tell you what they like and don’t like about their books as soon as they can voice their opinions. You could read them the short list of questions below, giving them the chance to think carefully about the books they read. I’d love you to send me their answers to publish!
What to ask your young readers about their books.
- Did you like the book?
- Why/why not?
- What did the book make you feel?
- Did you learn anything from the book?
- What do you think about the pictures?
- Who is your favourite character?
- Which characters would you like to meet and why?
- If you could give the book a different name, what would it be?
- If you could add something to the book, what would it be?
- If you could tell the author or illustrator something, what would it be?
